Master of Human Services Specializations
Study the area of most professional interest to you with three specializations, or choose a generalist track for a broad perspective of the human services field. Each one is comprised of four courses for a total of 12 credit hours.
Gerontology Specialization
In the United States, the number of adults age 65 and over is growing while the number of children 13 and under is decreasing1.
An aging population will present challenges for our society, including a
need for care-givers. A specialization in gerontology has wide
applications: counseling, physical therapy, assisted living,
institutional or in-home care, and nutrition and wellness. Classes
include:
• GERO 502 Social Gerontology (3 credit hours)
• GERO 503 Mental Health and Aging (3 credit hours)
• GERO 520 Long-Term Care Administration (3 credit hours)
• FL 533 Aging and the Family (3 credit hours)
Community and Public Health Specialization
Public health initiatives can benefit the entire community. This specialization helps you develop and assess initiatives in wellness, nutrition, disease management—all the elements of a healthy and connected community. Classes include:
• MPH 500 Fundamentals of Public Health (3 credit hours)
• MPH 515 Principles of Health Behavior (3 credit hours)
• MPH 584 Community Health (3 credit hours)
• MPH 585 Programming and Evaluation in Public Health (3 credit hours)
Human Services Leadership and Management Specialization
Concordia’s managerial-level track prepares you to be an ethical, effective and responsible leader of human services programs and policy. If you’re driven to lead as well as to serve, consider this specialization. Classes include:
• GERO 520 Long-Term Care Administration (3 credit hours)
• MPH 500 Fundamentals of Public Health (3 credit hours)
• MPH 588: Marketing and Public Health (3 credit hours)
• MPH 525 Health Policy and Management (3 credit hours)
• MGMT 562 Organizational Resource Development (3 credit hours)
Generalist Track
